Why Do I Need a Tire Rotation?
Whether you’re making short trips to Wisner Park or long jaunts to The Rockwell Museum, Honda drivers should be getting their tires rotated once every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. Tire rotations are a great way to ensure your vehicle will perform the best it can while keeping you and your passengers safe. By scheduling regular maintenance, you can make sure that all of your tires are receiving even wear distribution. For example, your FWD Honda HR-V, Civic, or Accord will likely experience the most wear and tear on its front tires. Because of this, your tires will need to be rotated to ensure they receive even wear, resulting in a much longer lifespan for each tire. Failing to get regular tire rotations can also lead to an increased risk of getting flats, which can put both you and your fellow drivers in danger. Lastly, regular rotations will help your Honda to operate at peak performance, allowing for a smooth, even ride.
Tire Rotation Process
At the beginning of the rotation process, our expert technicians in the Service Department will determine what rotation pattern to use. They will do this by inspecting the wear pattern of your tires while taking into account what drivetrain configuration your car uses. As previously mentioned, FWD models will likely experience more wear on their front tires than the ones on the rear. So, for these vehicles, our team would likely use a forward cross pattern, in which the front tires are moved back and the rear tires are switched and moved up. Conversely, for an AWD Honda Pilot or CR-V, an X pattern, in which all tires are moved diagonally, would likely be more suitable to maintain even wear. Once a pattern has been selected, we will remove your tires and inspect your brakes and rotors for an extra level of safety. After we inspect, rotate, and remount your tires, we will also measure and adjust their air pressure to ensure they will perform the best they can until your next appointment.
Warning Signs
If you notice any warning signs of unsafe tires as you drive your Honda, you should schedule an appointment for maintenance as soon as possible. The clearest sign that your tires need some attention is an illuminated pressure gauge light, which is a small exclamation mark icon located near the gauge cluster on your dashboard. If you frequently see this warning light appear, it could indicate that one or more of your tires has a leak, which could hinder performance and safety. However, you can also tell if your tires are worn by the way your car drives. If you feel that your car is uneven or are experiencing vibration in your steering wheel, you may need to get your tires inspected.
